Cherokee Youth Council
Provides youth from different communities, backgrounds, religions, ethnicities and economic levels an opportunity to work together and seek positive change for Cherokee.

In January 2016, the 2015-2016 Cherokee Youth Council (CYC) completed an advocacy training facilitated by Youth Empowered Solutions (YES!) to prepare for tobacco-free schools advocacy presentation. They were featured in multiple Around About Local Media magazines for their efforts.

The 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 Youth Councils attended the Georgia Teen Institute to develop action plans related to prevention of drug and alcohol use among their peers.

Mission & Vision
Mission: create a healthier future for Cherokee county youth by being a voice, taking action, and making positive changes at a local level.

Vision: a county where all youth believe that they can create an environment they wish to have and where they have access to the support and resources to make that environment a reality. We also envision a community that believes in and supports young people's right to self-expression and values youths' input and takes it seriously.
What We Do
  • Discuss issues that affect young people in Cherokee County
  • Decide what we can do about these issues
  • Raise our concerns about the community we live in
  • Make sure adults know what's important to us
